Contractor License Application Instructions

Please review the provided “Checklist” for each contractor license type as it provides detailed information for the requirements that apply to each type of license.

Please note, the following licenses are issued to Individuals (and NOT Companies), which means that for first time applicants, the application may be submitted online, but the Licensee must come IN PERSON TO THE PERMIT CENTER to pay for and to receive their license. Under no circumstances are we able to waive this requirement.

• Electrical Contractor

• Mechanical Contractor

• Plumbing Contractor

• Tank – Underground & Above Ground Contractor (Note: Above Ground only can be issued to a company or individual)

If you are RENEWING your Contractor License, please do NOT submit a new application via the below links. One month before your existing license expires, you can renew your license by making the following selections: “My Dashboard”, “My Licenses”, and then select “Renew” next to your existing License.

Rental Property Registration Application Instructions

Please select “Apply Online” for the Rental Type that best matches your rental property (i.e. “1 Unit Rental”, “2 Unit Rental”, etc.). Please review the Instructions prior to submitting your application.

Please note that you will have to submit 3 possible inspection dates and times that will work for your rental property to be inspected by the City of Elkhart Rental Inspector. Please do NOT submit an application until you have 3 possible inspection dates and times that will work for you or your tenant as we are unable to process the registration without this information. Please keep in mind that an adult must be present at the inspection.

You can also use the search box below.  The system will filter License types as you scroll.   You can search by City Department or License Type.  After ensuring you have all the required information for upload, click the "Apply Online" link for the required License.
